Topic: The Old Prophet
Word: 1 Kings 13:11 AMP
Now there was an old prophet living in Bethel; and his sons came and told him everything that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; they also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.
Here's My Take:
Intro..
The Old Prophet is a resident Prophet of Bethel. Should I say, he's the Angel of the Lord in Bethel. But he became inactive. Though the scripture didn't tell us why, but based on the event that took place in 1 Kings Chapter 13, one will have no option than to conclude that he became inactive.
Therefore, according to our understanding(we stand to be corrected), this could be as a result of two conditions.
Firstly, it's either he has lost respect and regard from his people, since he's their regular Prophet...you know that situation you'll find yourself when familiarity is in place.... people hardly value what you say, even when it's "thus says the Lord"
Secondly, it could be that the Glory of God left him. Which could be as a result of idolatry of Joroboam. Reading from 1Kings 12:28 to Chapter 13. The Bible didn't mention him warning the King or doing anything to stop idol worshipping. It could also be that he was part of Joroboam's loyalists; maybe he was part of the people he appointed...I said maybe!
But one truth about the old Prophet was that, he was dormant(inactive). Because of that God send a young Prophet(man of God), who came and do what he should have done, for him.
Every child of God has specific assignment/s given to him/her. That doesn't mean you can't do other things, nope. But when you fail to do that(even though you're doing other good things), you've not fulfill your purpose. So another will take your place.

It will interest you to know that everyone of us have treasures locked inside of us that needs to be digged out for the benefit of the creation. But when you don't know that, you'll start chasing shadows.
