Topic: THE GOLIATH
Word: 1 Samuel 17:4 KJV
“And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.”
Here's My Take:
WHO IS THE GOLIATH TO YOU?
3. Killer (1 Samuel 17:8-9):
Yesterday we established that GOLIATH does not just kill with swords or any form of weapon. He kills with words also. We started by showing us through the Scripture how he used words to terrify the people of God. The Bible said on hearing GOLIATH's words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
GOLIATH also used words to terrify and destroy the boy David:
1 Samuel 17:43-44 NIV
“He said to David, ‘Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?’ And he cursed David by his gods. ‘Come here,’ he said, ‘and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!’”
But thank God for David, he understood the power behind words. He countered Goliath's words immediately, and he never permitted Goliath to talk again before he was killed. The lesson derived from this is never to allow people or enemies to use negative words on us. For instance, if someone says you will die, you should counter it by saying "I won't die!"
Conclusion:
Those who have taken the words of their enemies for granted are always the casualties.
Song: Glen Campbell
With a heavy load from the seeds he sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and say, "You're going the wrong way"
You've got to try a little kindness
Yes, show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
Prayer:
Oh Lord purge us from using wrong words on people. In Jesus name. Amen.
