Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
“The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
Jesus Encounter Me The Pharisees:
If you ask me, I will say this plainly: the Pharisees deliberately brought sick people around Jesus on Sabbath days just to trap Him.
Look at what the Bible says:
“One Sabbath day Jesus went to eat dinner in the home of a leader of the Pharisees, and the people were watching him closely. There was a man there whose arms and legs were swollen.” — Luke 14:1–2 NLT
This was not accidental. They invited Jesus for a meal, deliberately positioned a sick person where He would see him, and then watched Him closely. They knew Jesus would not ignore suffering. And once He acted, they complained.
That is the strategy of hypocrites.
Every good leader faces this same plot. Colleagues will advise you to do something, fully knowing it will implicate you. When trouble comes, they will be the first to join in prosecuting you. I once knew a superior who lost a well-paying job because a colleague set him up—while the same colleague walked free.
That is the spirit of the Pharisees. That is why Jesus called them hypocrites. See Jesus reaction in our conclusion.
Conclusion:
Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in religious law, “Is it permitted in the law to heal people on the Sabbath day, or not?” When they refused to answer, Jesus touched the sick man and healed him and sent him away. Luke 14:3-4 NLT
Song:
In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease;
my Comforter, my All in All;
here in the love of Christ I stand.
Prayer:
Lord, may I receive the touch of the Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
