These are people whose concern is their gain. They face where their stomach face. These crowds were following Jesus for the sake of food and miracles. Not because they want to be saved. That's why it's easier for them to say He was possessed by demons. That's why it wasn't difficult for them to shout "crucify him!"
While the modern day crowd are the politicians. They seemed to be louder than Jesus' crowd. They won't join any political party that they won't benefit from. They become vocal when it's not favouring them, then silent when they're in charge.
The crowds are those people that can be easily manipulated by the evil to turn against the good, and they succumb.
