Jesus showed us how to do selection when making Friendship. When he was chosing the twelve Apostles that later turned his friends, except Judas. He picked fishermen, a Doctor, a Tax collector, etc. He never was one sided, because for him to grow in knowledge and Wisdom as a man, he needed different calibers of persons. That's why when you read the Parables of Jesus in the Bible, he mentioned the Tax collector and the Pharisees, the man that was robbed and beaten, who was taken to the hospital by the good Samaritan.
He went further telling Peter that he'll make him Fisher's of men.
Why all these analysis? Because he understood all their mode of operations, as a result of the knowledge he got from them all. If he had taken all the twelve from one profession(fishing), he's massage will be one sided. And many will not understand it
Great minds are versatile, they don't rely on one mindset, the collate many ideas and add to what they have already. Even in business, people that are outstanding doesn't depend on one business, they get involved in so many. This is the rules leading to greatness.
When you bent on making friends within your "family", the limitations of that family will limit you. You won't be better than them.
Conclusion:
An Eagle that hatched and grow with chicks, without getting in touch with another Eagle, will forever act like a chicken.
