Topic: THE GOLIATH
Word: 1 Samuel 17:4 KJV
“And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.”
Here's My Take:
WHO IS THE GOLIATH TO YOU?
5. A Mocker (1 Samuel 17:41-44):
A mocker may not have any reason for mocking someone; sometimes he derives joy in doing that. Look at Goliath for instance; the Bible says that for forty solid days, he would come out of the camp of the Philistines just to make a caricature of the people of God. Meaning that for one month plus, he was mocking the Israelites. This is one of the longest mockeries I have seen.
Just imagine starting a new job, and while in that job, a colleague mocked you consistently for one month?! I bet you, you may quit the job. Goliath's mockery was so intense that King Saul never showed up on the battlefield. The Bible never mentioned that Saul came out for even one day, until Goliath died.
How can a fellow man consistently mock you before your subjects?! I believe the King thought about that and decided to respect himself and stay back home. The embarrassment was massive, if you ask me. May God save us from mockers and mockery. There's nothing as embarrassing as that.
Conclusion:
Beloved, don't let any mocker or mockery make you give up. They never know what you have inside. One day they'll be the ones to be embarrassed when the David in you shows up.
