Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes..."

2. Spiritual Direction: Spiritual direction is also called divine direction or divine intervention. It gives us knowledge of the present as well as insight into the future. 

Now see this, the Bible said "when David and his men arrived home at Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone. 

When David and his men came back they realized that their families, David’s two wives, Ahinoam and Abigail, were among those captured. David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. 

But David found strength in the Lord his God. He said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it. Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!” 1 Samuel 30:1-3, 5-8 NLT

This is a clear example of spiritual direction. David did not rely only on emotions, anger, military strength, or human reasoning. In the middle of confusion, pain, and pressure, he sought direction from God first.

One remarkable thing about spiritual direction is that it gives clarity during moments of uncertainty. While others were overwhelmed emotionally, David turned to God for guidance. Divine direction gave him confidence, assurance, strategy, and hope for recovery.

Conclusion:

Spiritual direction gives us understanding concerning both the present and the future. David and his men would have remained devastated and confused if not for divine intervention and direction from God.
