Topic: THE PHARISEES

Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
“The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.

Here’s My Take:

Intro:

What to know about THE PHARISEES?
Pharisees were an influential Jewish group, just like the scribes, in Jesus' time. They were part of the Jewish nation - the people of God under the Law of Moses. They were a prominent sect focused on strict adherence to both written law and oral traditions, emphasizing holiness in daily life.

The Pharisees were central figures in interpreting and applying the Law, aiming for widespread observance, but they were more concerned about protecting their own positions and power than about doing the will of God (John 11:47-48).

The things they did and said were about promoting themselves and getting the people to follow after them, instead of following after Jesus. They like and enjoy exaltations and being noticed; they can go any length to get that to themselves.

Conclusion:
Their hypocrisy and focus on external observance over inner righteousness makes Jesus criticize them.

Song:
You are Alpha and Omega
We worship You our Lord
You are worthy to be praised

We give You all the glory
We worship You our Lord
You are worthy to be praised

Prayer:
Lord, help us not to follow after the lifestyle of the Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
