Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
“The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
Intro:
Who are the PHARISEES?
According to "center on Christ"; Pharisees apply priestly laws to all Jews, democratizing religious practice. They focused on personal holiness, including ceremonial purification and enjoyed wide backing from the common people, unlike the Sadducees."
"They often served as teachers and leaders in synagogues. Enforcing heavy religious laws on people, which they don't keep. They held seats in the Jewish ruling council. They were renowned for their rigorous interpretation and application of Jewish Law(the Torah), believing it applied to everyone, not just priests, and adapting it to daily life through oral traditions.
This often leads to debates with Jesus over strict rule-keeping. They saw themselves as guardians of the Law, developing detailed interpretations (Halakha) to make it livable for all people."
Conclusion:
"The Pharisees were central figures in interpreting and applying the Law, aiming for widespread observance, but their methods and focus often clashed with Jesus' emphasis on inner transformation and God's deeper purpose" Britannica
Song:

The Jesus that I know
Is enough for me
Prayer:
Lord, help us not to follow the lifestyle of the Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
