“The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
Jesus Encounter Me The Pharisees:
Luke 13:22-24, 31 NLT
Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he went, always pressing on toward Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He replied, “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail. At that time some Pharisees said to him, “Get away from here if you want to live! Herod Antipas wants to kill you!”
This was the first time the Pharisees acted kindly where Jesus was. Herod Antipas wants to kill Jesus because he doesn't want a rival. Jesus was called the King Of The Jews, and Herod had heard everything about Jesus fame. And he feared a challenge to his power.
Then Pharisees, who were religious leaders and were also close to the place of authority, knew the underground plan by Herod Antipas to eliminate Jesus. For the first time throughout their encounter with Jesus, they showed concern. Because the normal Pharisees that I know will want him dead.
Conclusion:
The verses of the Scripture above shows that the Pharisees actually have human sympathy, but their challenge was that they like fame, power and position. So they saw Jesus as a threat, because of the speed he was becoming famous. And they decided to silence him.
Song:
Oh Lord speak into my life
I am a living sacrifice
Your word says live and not die
Oh Lord speak into my life
Prayer:
Lord, may I find favor before the Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
