Topic: PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
“The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
Intro:
Who are PHARISEES?
According to Google; Pharisees were an influential Jewish religious party during the Second Temple period (c. 165 BCE–70 CE) known for their strict adherence to both written law (Torah) and oral traditions, believing in resurrection, angels, and an afterlife, and forming the basis for Rabbinic Judaism after the Temple's destruction.
They were popular, middle-class leaders, often working as merchants, and emphasized piety and communal observance, though they clashed with Jesus over interpretations, often seen in the Gospels as self-righteous and hypocritical.
They're the ones that gave equal weight to the written Torah and oral traditions which was passed down from elders. They believed in resurrection, a coming Messiah, and divine rewards/punishments in an afterlife.
Conclusion:
If the PHARISEES were able to do what they tell people to do, they would have been Jesus' best friends. Do you agree with me?
Song:
My heart, My mind
My soul belongs to You
My love, My life
It all belongs to You
Belongs to You
Prayer:
Lord, help us not to follow the lifestyle of the Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
