Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
2. Deception:
The Bible said, as Jonah planned to escape from the Lord through the sea, the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship. But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold. Jonah 1:4-5 NLT
First, I believe the ship Jonah entered was not as big as our modern ships. Even with the level of technology we have today, there’s no way anyone on board wouldn’t know when a powerful wind is tossing the ship.
Jonah pretending to be fast asleep in the midst of such a disaster was pure deception. He went to sleep because nothing was bothering him—he had nothing to lose. Imagine having someone like Jonah in your company. Be rest assured, he’ll ruin your peace and add to your suffering. He’ll do it and walk away without remorse, because he knows he has nothing to lose.
Conclusion:
The worst company you can keep is that of people who have nothing to lose. Your life and destiny can be jeopardized if your circle is filled with such people.
Song:
You are here, You’re moving in our midst
I worship You
I worship You
You are here, You’re working in this place
I worship You
I worship You
Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper
Light in the darkness, my God
That is who You are
Prayer:
Lord, help us to fish out every Jonah around us. In Jesus. Amen.
