Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
1. Disaster: As long as Jonah remains aboard, disaster remains on duty. Notice that Jonah didn’t fall off — they had to throw him out. Some Jonah's won’t leave your life until you take action. Peace requires separation. The sailors didn’t hate Jonah; they just loved their lives more. Sometimes you must choose between sympathy and safety. When you pity Jonah, you endanger your ship. Disaster doesn’t need permission when Jonah is around.
Every area where God is disobeyed will soon shake. Jonah represents rebellion dressed in reason. He always has an excuse for running away from God’s instruction. And as long as excuses live, disasters will continue. Remove Jonah, and watch how quickly the storm stops. Sometimes, the solution is not prayer — it’s obedience.
Jonah doesn’t always come as a person — sometimes, he’s an attitude. It might be stubbornness, pride, unforgiveness, or rebellion. You may think it’s small, but small leaks sink great ships. Jonah makes you comfortable in the wrong place. He’ll convince you that “it’s not that deep,” while your life drifts off course.
To be continued...
Conclusion:
Every disobedience has a storm attached to it. The sea doesn’t react until Jonah disobeys.
Even creation responds when a man resists his Creator.
Song:
Lord I desire something
That is far beyond what I know
Lord I hunger for something
That is far more than all I know
Chorus
Lord I’ll know it when I see it
I’ll know it when I feel it
I’ll know it when I touch it
Lord I know that all I need is in Your Hands
Prayer:
Lord, help us to identify every Jonah around us, and may we not be that Jonah. In Jesus. Amen.
