Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
Intro:
Going through Jonah’s attitude toward the people of Nineveh — how he became angry because they repented — a lot of things flood my mind.
It reminded me of something that happened a few years ago, when I went with one of my brothers to see a pastor and complain that his son had duped me of ₦3,500.
After I explained everything, the pastor asked if I wanted the money back so he could repay me. Because of the relationship I had with him, I declined. Even though I was still angry at home, I declined again.
When we left, my brother became very angry with me. He warned me never to call him again for this kind of matter. In his words, instead of collecting my money back, I had “wasted his time,” only to say, “I have forgiven him and won’t take the money again.”
But the money wasn’t his — it was mine. And I had the right to choose what to do with it. Yet he was the one angry. That was exactly what Jonah did.
The people belonged to God, the message belonged to God, the mercy also belonged to God — yet Jonah was angry because God pardoned them. May God help us…
Conclusion:
When we forget that souls belong to God, we start acting like judges instead of messengers. Mercy is never ours to withhold, and forgiveness is never weakness — it is partnership with the heart of the Father.
Song:
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God
Prayer:
Lord, give us hearts of Love for the lost. Help us Lord to bring them all back to you. In Jesus. Amen.
