Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
Intro:
“Just kill me now, Lord! I would rather die than live if what I predicted does not happen.”
What an audacity! What a level of boldness gone wrong. Imagine a man telling God that he would rather die than see sinners repent. I would rather die than see people come to Christ. Is that audacity for me?! That was Jonah’s posture. Incredible!
This same Jonah-like audacity is still visible today. I have heard people say, “If God doesn’t answer my prayer, I’ll throw away my Bible,” or “If God doesn’t respond to me, I will stop praying to Him and look for another god.”
Statements like these make me shake my head. Imagine man trying to condition God. Since when did the pot begin to instruct the Potter? Since when does clay threaten its Maker in order to secure a blessing?
Whenever we use the phrase “God, if you don’t…” we reveal our lack of knowledge about who He truly is. He is not a tool we command — He is a consuming Fire.
Conclusion:
When you lack the knowledge of the One you call God, you will lack the fear of Him. And when you lack the fear of God, you cannot truly know Him.
Song:
Jesus the son of God
I believe in you, I believe in you
Jesus the son of God
I believe in you, I believe in you
In my darkest hour
You became my light
With your healing arms
You redeemed my sight
Prayer:
May pride not give us audacity where God is, in Jesus name. Amen.
