Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
Intro:
“So he complained to the Lord about it: ‘Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.’”
(Jonah 4:2 NLT)
Friends, just tell me — who would not love a God who is always eager to turn back from destroying people?
Who wouldn’t desire a teacher who is always ready to pardon His students when they go wrong?
But look at Jonah’s response:
“Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.”
Boy oh boy! Blessed be this God who is merciful and compassionate — slow to anger and rich in unfailing love. If we were in God’s position, many of us would not have wasted a second before reacting in anger. Yet, like a loving Father, God ignored Jonah’s excesses and still showed him mercy.
To be continued…
Conclusion:
No one receives forgiveness based on personal merit.
We are forgiven only because of His mercy and compassion.
Song:
The presence of the Lord is in this place
What you want you can receive
The presence of the Lord is in this place
Lift up your voice say I receive
The presence of the Lord is in this place
What you want you can receive
The presence of the Lord is in this place
I receive
I receive
I receive
I receive
I receive
I receive
For the presence of the Lord is here
Prayer:
May God expose every bittered heart against us in Jesus name. Amen.
