Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
Intro:
Jonah is synonymous to someone that likes to dodge responsibility. One of the things a real man is known for is to accept responsibilities. He doesn't slack back, no matter how long it takes. He will accept it, and work towards actualizing whatever that was. But that's not a Jonah. He doesn't want to know whether that responsibility will be easy to tackle or not.
Jonah will always find a reason to avoid that responsibility. Even when some people ahead of him had done that. But, come to think of it, what does Jonah have to benefit from the responsibility he was given to?
The Bible said "when Jonah saw that God won't destroy Nineveh, he complained: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.” Jonah 4:2-3 NLT
Conclusion:
Jonah want everything to be done in his terms, not on God's terms. Don't let Jonah determine how you'll run your life.
Song:
Wake me up
From this slumber that I'm in
Take me up
To a brand-new horizon
Oh Lord, give me eyes to see
That what I need don't cost a thing
You fill my life
With somethin' money can't buy
I'm done chasin' after gold
Rip the price tag off my soul
You fill my life
With somethin' money can't buy
Prayer:
Lord, may we never give Jonah a chance to determine how people around me should be treated... Amen.
