For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 

Here's My Take:

CATALYST(As A Church): It's good to belong to a Church, very important. It's good to belong to a particular Church because that's where you were born or should I say your parents/family Church. But it's very important to watch out for the Catalytic Nature of that Church you belong to.

Belonging to a Church where your gifts can't be fan into flame or belonging to a Church where your future can't be ascertained is a red light that you should find your Church(change Church). Don't ignorantly allow yourself to be tied down to a place where your future isn't safe spiritually.

Just know that there's no permanent membership anywhere, that's why you see new members almost in every activity day. But if someone tells you that you're a permanent member of that Church, tell him/her that it's not true. But in the case that God told you to remain there, please do. But there's every need to understand where the gifts of God in your life needs to be harnessed.

Conclusion:

‭Every one of us has a place where God positioned our mantle. If it's not in that Church where you were born(family Church), prayerfully locate it. Don't remain there because it's where your placenta is or because the Pastor is your family friend. Don't serve God by pity.
