What transpired between Paul and Barnabas is what we likely see this days between brethren, business partners, etc. There's no much difference. Let's see this..
Paul told Barnabas let's go to Pamphylia, to know how our converts are fairing. Barnabas said Ok let me tell John to prepare. Paul said no, we'll not go with that young man, he ran away the other time. Yes I know, at least he's experienced in mission work, and he knows some compounds.
He's a discouragement, said Paul. Barnabas asked why? Why should you qualify my brother like that?
Paul replied, why shouldn't I? Who on Earth will leave his fellow labourers in the field and ran away? He's not going anywhere with us.
Can't you forgive him, at least he has learnt his lessons and won't repeat that again, said Barnabas. I'd already forgiven him, but won't risk that again, said Paul.
Barnabas left angrily with John.
Paul thought "how can I go alone", he call forth Silas to Join him. Silas agreed. What if this was what transpired between Paul and Barnabas? What do you think would have been the reason/s for such contention, leading to separation, apart from that John left them and fled?
Conclusion:
Forgiveness most times goes with actions, not just saying it. When we say we have forgiven, and yet doesn't show it through our approach, it will appear as though we didn't do that.
