You didn’t choose me. I chose you.
Here's My Take:
Different Dictionary Definitions(DDD)
Longman Dictionary also defined Friend as "someone who has the same beliefs, wants to achieve the same things etc as you, and will support you"
The two primary things that is the reason why people make friends are "same beliefs" and "wants to achieve same things/same purpose". When you ask anyone why is this person your friend, any of the above two responses will be given.
This means that, if you're from a different belief, it's a no no.
Someone will say after all the Bible said "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers". Hahaha.
Well, this is obviously different. Just like we said yesterday, those in the same belief tends to act same way. They're not versatile. But if you think that alone is enough for you, then it's ok.
Making friends that wants to achieve the same things you're after is very good, but most times they don't last. For example as a Corp member, you'll meet people in the camp, within two weeks you've become best of friends. After camp, everyone will go separate ways. I wonder how many still communicate after camp or service year?
Making friends in line with your purpose is very good, but don't end it there. Purpose can change, then what will you do?
Conclusion:
We didn't say making friends from the same beliefs or purpose is bad, not at all! We're just saying that it could go beyond that. Because your beliefs and purpose may change tomorrow

In the Cross
In the Cross
Be my Glory ever
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the River

Father give me a sense of belonging. Amen.
