The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.

MODERN DAY PHARISEES:
Characteristics of a "Modern-Day Pharisee":
6. Lack of Mercy: Modern-day Pharisees are meaner than their counterparts. When you compare them with the older ones, you’ll find that the older Pharisees didn’t bother many people unless they felt insecure and threatened by what that person carried—just like what they felt with John the Baptist, Jesus, and the disciples. Their major concern was their followers who left them for Jesus.
Maybe if not for that, they might not have shown any concern about where Jesus and His disciples were. That made them look for every means to remove Him from the picture. But modern-day Pharisees are a bit worse. Apart from feeling insecure and threatened, they do not want a peaceful and healthy Church.
They are not fighting against individuals per se, but against entire churches. If they succeed or fail to pull one church down, they will move to another church to continue the same mission. The level at which they lack mercy, especially in their dealings with the Church, is obvious.
Conclusion:
Anything you can do to keep away from Modern-Day Pharisees do it. Because they are more dangerous than the older ones. They can kill, hate, and formulate lies just to make sure they carry out their assignment
