Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
MODERN DAY PHARISEES:
Characteristics of a "Modern-Day Pharisee":
6. Lack of Mercy: The Pharisees—both old and modern—often lack mercy. Yesterday, I mentioned how they brought the woman caught in the act, yet never brought the man involved with her. Perhaps he was one of them. The way they handled that situation clearly showed a lack of mercy.
A person with mercy does not rush to publicly disgrace others. Instead, such a person reaches out, handles matters privately, and seeks restoration rather than exposure.
For example, when a leader resigns from a position simply because of a personal offense, it often reflects a lack of mercy. Also, when a leader punishes an entire group because of the wrongdoing of one person, it reveals the same problem. People with this mindset tend to generalize punishment and create unnecessary damage because of isolated issues.
Conclusion:
Many of the behaviors we see in the Church today show that Pharisaic tendencies are still very present. Where mercy is lacking, division and hurt will always increase.
Song:
I would have been forever lost
But for your love
I would have been forever lost
But for your grace
I can't pay you Lord, I can't pay you Lord
There's nothing I can give that makes any sense
Prayer: May the Lord purge and liberate the Church and our family from the Pharisaic mentality. In Jesus name. Amen.
