THE PHARISEES

Topic: THE PHARISEES

Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT

"The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses."

Here’s My Take:

MODERN DAY PHARISEES:

1. Legalism & Ritualism: Emphasize external observance (rules, traditions, metrics) as the path to righteousness, not inner heart change. These traditions have become a modern-day version of the Law—where people are pressured to look a certain way, walk a certain way, talk a certain way, and even eat a certain way, all in an attempt to appear righteous.

Many of us who grew up in environments where these traditions are strictly enforced often label those who do not follow them as baby Christians, new-generation churches, or other names—just to make them appear unfit for the Kingdom.

Even in our associations, it was difficult relating with such people. We, acting like Pharisees, found it hard to connect with them. Meanwhile, they were free to relate with anyone, while we kept our distance—afraid that our fellow traditionalists would label us as one of them.

Conclusion:

Tradition is not bad. But using it as a calibration for divine qualification is not appropriate. It limits the expression of God’s grace and creates an avenue for a return to the Law.

🎵 Song:

We give you all the Glory
We give you honour
We give you all the Glory
We give you Honour

Prayer: May the Lord liberate His Church from the modern day Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
