Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
"The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses."
Here’s My Take:
HOW TO KNOW A PHARISEE:
1. A Pharisee is someone that will not appreciate your effort, because he's not the one that did it.
One major issue with the Pharisees was envy. They were not just angry with Jesus because he claimed to be God or spoke in parables. Their annoyance was because He was doing what they couldn't do.
- He healed the sick — they couldn’t.
- He raised the dead — they couldn’t.
- They could not believe someone they knew from birth could suddenly become great.
Conclusion:
To them, it was unacceptable that someone would rise out of nowhere and become great in their domain. They refused to accept such "embarrassment."
🎵 Song:
Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain;
Free to all, a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
Prayer: Lord deliver us from the spirit of envy. In Jesus name. Amen.
