Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
5. Misidentification: Jonah stands for Misidentification. The Bible said "But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish." Jonah 1:3 NLT
If you must know, "Tarshish was known for its immense wealth and status as a major trading hub, particularly for its abundance of silver, iron, tin, and lead." Also "ships of Tarshish" were a famous fleet of large, seaworthy vessels used for long voyages to transport valuable goods like gold, silver, ivory, and exotic animals
So Jonah's move and his choice of Ship was well calculated. In other words, he had a good plan before choosing his location. If you ask me, I will say he wants to survive outside his calling.
To be continued...
Conclusion:
Jonah's Misidentification made it difficult for everyone, especially the Captain to detect who he was. He was clever enough to choose a business ship.
Song:
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
To see You high and lifted up
Shinin' in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy
Prayer:
Lord, please may we not misidentify the Jonahs around us. In Jesus. Amen
