Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
1. Disaster:
Notice that the storm didn’t target everyone; it targeted Jonah’s direction. Some troubles are location-specific, disobedience-triggered. When you are not where God sent you, you’ll face what He never planned for you. Jonah runs from an assignment but meets disaster instead. Running from God is never a shortcut, it’s a setup. Many have lost good ships because they refused to lose one Jonah.
The sailors did everything humanly possible before letting go of Jonah. They threw out goods, wasted effort, and prayed, but nothing changed. That’s how people lose valuable things while holding onto the wrong people. Until Jonah goes, your losses will continue. Every time you protect what God wants you to release, you empower your storm.
Disaster lingers where obedience is delayed. Jonah represents anything that drains peace but refuses correction. As long as Jonah is hidden in your space, confusion becomes your companion. Sometimes, the storm is God’s mercy—not His punishment. He stirs the water to expose the wrong passenger.
You can’t calm what’s meant to confront you.
Conclusion:
The sea teaches a lesson: not all noise means Satan; sometimes, it’s divine correction. Jonah didn’t repent until he was thrown into the deep. Some lessons can’t be learned on deck; they’re learned in the belly of the fish. And some peace won’t return until you surrender Jonah to God. Disaster loses power where obedience begins. Throw Jonah out, and the storm will bow.
Song:
You are my strength, when I seem to have no strength
You are my song, when I am in need of song
You are strength, when I seem to have no strength
You are my song, when I am in need of song
Lord I cannot do without you
No matter how hard I choose to try
You are everything to me in everything
Lord I cannot do without you
No matter how hard I choose to try
You are everything to me in everything
Prayer:
Lord, help us to identify every Jonah around us, and may we not be that Jonah. In Jesus. Amen.
