Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
MODERN DAY PHARISEES:
4. Control & Power: Modern-day Pharisees are one of the reasons the Church today sometimes looks like it is placed on a family tree.. Some of the changes you see in churches today, which may not sit well with you, are often reactions to the influence and actions of Pharisaic individuals within the Church.
Many of the ideas and policies some churches put in place are aimed at keeping Pharisaic influence under control. Left unchecked, such attitudes can spread, corrupt others, and create unnecessary divisions. When people with such tendencies retain certain titles, they may use them to manipulate others.
This is why, in some churches, you may find many who are called or ordained, yet only one person is officially recognized as “Pastor,” while others are referred to as ministers, leaders, or by other titles. It does not mean they are not valued; rather, it is a structure put in place to maintain order, limit unhealthy influence, and ensure that authority is clearly defined and respected.
Conclusion:
Before demanding accountability from a church that existed long before you joined, take a moment to examine yourself. Are your concerns driven by genuine truth—or could they be influenced by a Pharisaic mindset?
Song:
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God He calls me friend
Who am I that You are mindful of me
That You hear me when I call
Is it true that You are thinking of me
How You love me it's amazing
Prayer: May the Lord liberate His Church from Modern-Day Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
