Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
MODERN DAY PHARISEES:
4. Control & Power: For the sake of avoiding misunderstanding, I will be brief on this matter.
Modern-day Pharisees exercise control through doctrines, dogma, and church policies. They have mastered the art of making people believe that every policy is spiritual, and that failing to follow it is a sin.
Now, what is the difference between the Law and these policies? Many of these doctrines and policies are simply modernized versions of the Law—just with different names. People are held captive by them, trying to fulfill what is essentially the Law in another form.
These modern-day Pharisees often influence church doctrines and policies, and sometimes even attempt to control leadership. When such individuals dominate a church board, it can become destructive. Policies may be created that frustrate leadership and even push a resident priest out before his time.
Conclusion:
Modern-Day Pharisees ain't joking when power or authority enters their hands. Because they know how to use them.
