Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
MODERN DAY PHARISEES:
Characteristics of a "Modern-Day Pharisee":
3. Focus on Appearance: These sets of Pharisees focus on people’s outward appearance. What you eat or have eaten is of no concern to them, but what you wear and how you dress becomes their priority.
A man once shared a story from his church, where he was serving as an usher.
One Sunday, during the service, a young, beautiful lady walked into the church. Another usher immediately moved to send her out, but he quickly intervened and brought the lady to the front row—so she could hear the Word of God and be blessed.
Why did the other usher want to send her out? Because she was wearing trousers.
The man said his intervention made the difference. The lady stayed, continued attending the church, and eventually began to dress like others. Who knows what brought her to church that day, or what might have happened if she had been chased away?
Conclusion:
Pharisees are too quick to push people away from the Way. When they sense that someone is about to encounter something that could change their life, they move quickly to block it.
Song:
You raise me up
Prayer: May the Lord liberate His Church from the modern day Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
