Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
"The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses."
Here’s My Take:
HOW TO KNOW A PHARISEE:
6. A Pharisee is someone that hates the truth: It seems that in today’s world, we have more Pharisees than sincere people. This is evident in the way people accept those who lie to them more than those who speak the truth. It makes you wonder whether truth still prevails.
What is even worse is that when you speak the truth, people around you begin to criticize you, asking if you are the only righteous one in the world. It has gotten that bad. They expect you to be like them. To them, telling lies is normal, but speaking the truth and standing by it is abnormal.
Any man who hates the truth will surely defend lies—because people defend what they are used to. Recall how the religious leaders instructed the soldiers to say, “His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep,” promising to protect them (Matthew 28:13–14). That shows how far they can go.
Conclusion:
Anyone who gets angry when you tell them the truth is acting like a Pharisee. Remember, in this context, a Pharisee could be anyone—a father, a mother, a family member, a landlord, or anyone around you.
