Topic: THE PHARISEES
Word: Matthew 23:2 NLT
The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.
Here’s My Take:
MODERN DAY PHARISEES:
Characteristics of a "Modern-Day Pharisee":
2. Judgmentalism: It is disheartening that Pharisaic attitudes still exist in the Church today, even after all that Jesus exposed about them in Scripture. Yet, the Church is still full of people who choose that path. They are quick to project other people’s sins and weaknesses, while theirs are swept under the carpet.
No wonder Jesus called them hypocrites. They refuse to deal with their own weaknesses, always looking for someone else to expose.
There is a particular fellow everyone complains about. He has never accepted any of his mistakes. Even when caught red-handed, he always finds a way to shift the blame to someone else.
His colleagues complain about him, his neighbours are tired of him, and even his church has given up on him. Yet, none of these reactions seem to bother him. He always presents himself as righteous, and when he prays, he is the loudest—full of himself and completely unbothered by his flawed character. You need to be close to him to truly understand what I mean.
Conclusion:
One unique thing about the Pharisees is that they do not care what people say about them. Even when they know the truth is being spoken, they choose to ignore it.
Song:
Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain;
Free to all, a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
Till my ransomed soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.
Prayer: May the Lord liberate His Church from the modern day Pharisees. In Jesus name. Amen.
