Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
2. Deception:
Jonah knew what he was doing — he was running from God. He didn’t tell the sailors the truth until it was too late. That’s how deception operates — it hides until the storm exposes it. Jonah looked calm on the outside but was guilty on the inside. He blended in among innocent men while carrying rebellion in his heart. Deception doesn’t always come with lies; sometimes, it’s silence.
Jonah kept quiet while others suffered for his secret. How many storms today are caused by hidden disobedience? He pretended all was well, even while judgment was near. Jonah teaches us that deception isn’t always visible — it’s often disguised as peace. He looked harmless, yet carried danger. That’s the mystery of deceptive behavior — it looks safe until it explodes.
Deception wears the robe of innocence but carries the heart of rebellion. Jonah sat among the crew as though he belonged. He acted like a normal traveler, but he was a fugitive in disguise. That’s what happens when we hide our true condition before God.
Conclusion:
Remember this: You can deceive men, but not the sea. Because creation knows what you’re hiding even when people don’t.
Song:
I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in His hands
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call
Prayer:
Lord, may we not be deceived Jonah. In Jesus. Amen.
