Here's My Take:
There are many people we can use as examples of Spiritual Longsightedness, especially outside the scripture. But we'll be looking at this particular person called Eli.
Eli was a Priest of God, a father, and a husband. He was called by God to be a Priest and Judge. His office covers from his house, the temple, and the people of Israel, and/or anyone that doesn't belong to the commonwealth of Israel, but chose to worship in Israel.
As a judge, his duty is to preside over cases, telling which is right or wrong, good or bad, etc. And if any is found treasonable may go to jail, hanged, stoned, etc. Yet his children weren't anywhere better.
Conclusion:
Snake or any other animal will give birth to what looks like it. And if it doesn't look like its mother that moment, with time, it will.
