Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
4. Disobedience:
Jonah also stands for disobedience. He heard God clearly, yet went the opposite way. Disobedience is not confusion — it is rebellion with direction. Jonah didn’t wander; he deliberately ran. That’s how disobedience looks: intentional steps away from God’s will. When you choose your will above God’s plan, Jonah has entered your heart. God said Nineveh, Jonah said Tarshish.
Disobedience always creates an alternative path. It manufactures options God never endorsed. Jonah teaches us that disobedience is not weakness — it is resistance. He knew the assignment, yet ignored it. Disobedience thrives where self-will is stronger than surrender.
Every act of disobedience is a vote against your own destiny. Jonah didn’t just disobey God — he sabotaged himself. Disobedience makes you pay for journeys God never sent you on. Jonah paid his own fare; obedience is always sponsored by God. If you fund it yourself, you’re probably disobeying.
Conclusion:
Jonah’s nature should be a concern to everyone. Imagine having a child, partner, or a congregation with Jonah's nature?! That means that you're on your own, because disobedience will be the order of the day.
Song:
You are glorious so glorious
In Your ways
You are glorious so glorious
In Your ways
Prayer:
Lord, may we not be the Jonah of our lives. In Jesus. Amen
