Topic: Don't Pity Jonah!
Word: Jonah 1:15 NLT
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Here's My Take:
What Jonah stands...
4. Disobedience:
Jonah stands for Disobedience. If you want to refer to someone as a disobedient person, someone that runs away from responsibility, then you can call him Jonah. Because that's what Jonah represents. Jonah knew that what he was sent to do was a good thing, yet he chose to disobey. Now, the reason why Jonah chose to disobey God rather than doing what God told him was because he knew that God is merciful.
Nothing more. Now see what the Bible said when God forgave the people of Nineveh, when they had repented, after Jonah had preached to them: *"This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry.
So he complained to the Lord about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.”* Jonah 4:1-2 NLT.
Conclusion:
The kindness of God became the reason for his disobedience. He disobeyed because he didn't want God to show His people mercy.
Song:
And You move mountains
You cause walls to fall
With Your Power
Perform miracles
There is nothing
That's impossible
And we're standing here
Only because You made the way
Prayer:
Lord, may anyone delaying my blessings be removed on the way. In Jesus. Amen
